Why such a peppy name for these green beans? Because they’re a party for your taste buds! I’m all about trying to make good-for-you foods taste great and this green bean recipe totally hits the spot.
They’ve got an Asian flavor and they’re good enough to have as an appetizer. They’re literally bursting with flavor, have the perfect pinch of spice, and are made in a sauce you could soak some bread in because it’s that delicious. The soy sauce, vinegar, wine and sugar give these green beans the perfect tangy sweet Asian blend.
Ingredients
- 1 lb French beans
- 2 tbsp sesame oil
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 1 tbsp red wine (I use Two Buck Chuck)
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1/2 chopped white onion
- 3 tsp fresh chopped ginger or 3 cubes of Dorot frozen ginger cubes
- 3 cloves chopped garlic or 3 cubes of Dorot frozen garlic cubes
- Handful of chopped scallions
- 2 tsp red pepper flakes
Directions
Cook the beans in a pan with water for 5-8 minutes, then drain.
Combine sesame oil, soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, red wine and sugar in a bowl.
Heat 2 tbsp olive oil and stir-fry the beans for about 3 minutes to crisp them up. They’ll get nice and shiny from the oil. Then remove them from heat and set them aside.
Reheat the oil in the pan. Add red pepper flakes and have fun watching them infuse with the oil. Then toss in onion, ginger, garlic and scallions. If using the Dorot cubes, stir fry until they’re melted and integrated with the other ingredients. If using fresh garlic, stir fry until its pieces are just golden on the edges.
Return the beans to the skillet and get it nice and integrated, 1-2 minutes.
Now for the big finish! Add the soy sauce mixture in the bowl and coat the beans. Give it about 3 minutes to thicken up the sauce and get everything combined. Then remove from heat and serve immediately.
